If you are a supoened witness/victim for a Domestic violence case and do not show up to court ?

I am supposed to go to a case next week for a domestic violence dispute between me and my ex girlfriend...I do not want to testify nor have anything bad happen. How can I drop the case so that we dont have to go thru the trouble of all this nonsense with court and trial? I heard to not show up at all. Is that true? and what is the punishment if I dont?
