Assault- victim have to appear in court?(UK)?

She can be sent to jail if she refuses to appear, but I would urge her to go ahead with it, what if he does it again, can she live with knowing another girl went through what she did? plus she might be entitled to come compensation which although won't change anything, might give her money for a new flat or something if she wants to get away from everything.
