Help with Samsung Gusto texting..?

I just bought a Samsung Gusto within the hour. I was using it to text a friend and usually I use T9. But this doesn't let me write certain words and doesn't give me the dropdown word selector. So when I try to text " no" I can only text "on". As well as "dont" comes out as "foot". How can I fix this?
